Orthomolecular medicine has become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly among those seeking alternative ways of treating brain-body conditions such as anxiety, depression, and autism. At Mensah Medical, our physicians and nurses focus on balancing biochemical levels within the body through diet changes, supplementation protocols, and detoxification processes. When a patient seeks treatment with our practice, we begin with a clinical, scientific starting point that includes lab work and testing to confirm deficiencies and imbalances before protocols and treatments are advised.
At Mensah Medical, we address the root cause of our patient’s conditions rather than simply treating their symptoms. By correcting any nutrient deficiencies or biochemical imbalances, we can restore balance to the body, potentially resolving health issues without relying on harsh pharmaceuticals or invasive procedures. This approach has proven to be effective in treating conditions such as depression, autism, anxiety, and many others where traditional therapies have not provided relief. Advanced Nutrient Therapy is the primary modality for treatment with Orthomolecular medicine at Mensah Medical.
The early pioneers in the nutrient-based treatment of mental illness, including Abram Hoffer, MD, Ph.D., and Carl Pfeiffer, MD, Ph.D., found success in treating mental illnesses using high doses of selected supplements. The original Pfeiffer Treatment Center (now closed) and the work of William J. Walsh, Ph.D., continued Dr. Pfeiffer’s work and found that biochemical imbalances are the underlying cause of behaviors found in many common learning, mood, and behavioral illnesses – AD(H)D, autism, behavior disorders, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease. Mensah Medical physicians advance the revolutionary work of Dr. Walsh and other orthomolecular pioneers by using Dr. Walsh’s nutrient therapy system in clinical practice. They work closely with Walsh Research Institute updating therapies and protocols, initiating new, cutting-edge paradigms, and serving as clinical instructors for WRI’s international doctor training programs in Australia, Ireland, and other countries.
Advanced Nutrient Therapy uses the therapeutic application of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutrients to help address underlying biochemical imbalances in the body. Advanced Nutrient Therapy aims to optimize cellular health and promote healing by providing the body with natural, therapeutic levels of essential nutrients. Optimal health can be achieved through proper nutrient balance, and diseases and behavioral disorders can be caused and/or affected by dysregulation. Advanced Nutrient Therapy is a natural, safe, and effective alternative to pharmaceuticals for patients with many conditions and mental health disorders.
Patients are given a custom blend of nutrient therapies based on specific lab testing results. Lab tests determine a patient’s unique biochemical individuality and imbalances that may affect their physical health, behavior, mood, development, and mental well-being. Advanced Nutrient Therapy is an individualized vitamin, mineral, and amino acid prescription used to treat biochemical imbalances based on scientific and medical research rather than purchasing vitamins and minerals at a health food store in various amounts and combinations.

Advanced Nutrient Therapy, also known as Advanced Molecular Therapy, begins with a comprehensive medical evaluation. At Mensah Medical, we review our patient’s clinical history, observe patient behaviors during the visit, take note of mood and physical symptoms, and conduct a brief physical examination.
Once the medical evaluation is completed, laboratory testing is ordered. The lab results determine individual nutrient deficiencies, overloads, and biochemical imbalances. Using these lab results, our physicians formulate a treatment plan with the proper dosing of specific nutrients required to repair and restore imbalances. We also review your current medications, if you are on them, and any possible interactions with your medications and prescribed nutrients.
The nutrient therapies that Mensah Medical provides go beyond taking over-the-counter multivitamins, single trial-and-error supplements, or changing one’s diet – these are specific molecular targeting agents. While a healthy diet is important, it cannot necessarily compensate for the adequate amount of nutrients that the brain needs to function. For example, it may be physically impossible for some to consume bushels of oranges to correct a Vitamin C deficiency. Fortunately, with an understanding of Advanced Nutrient Therapy, an individual’s specific biochemistry and imbalances can be properly identified and treated successfully. Remember that taking the dosages daily is paramount to achieving optimal well-being.
