Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

Mensah Medical is located in Lisle, Illinois. Our address is 4200 Commerce Ct. Suite 100 Lisle, Illinois, 60532

The first step is to contact us in order to receive an information letter and additional forms. Prior to scheduling your first appointment at Mensah Medical, you will be required to complete a new patient intake form as well as a patient history form. These forms must be submitted to Mensah Medical via email or USPS before an appointment can be scheduled.

For Outreach Clinic appointments intake forms must be submitted one week before the scheduled Outreach. For established patients, prior to your follow up you will be required to complete a progress report. This must be submitted via your Elation Passport at least 72 hours before the appointment.

Plan on arriving at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. This will allow for time to check-in and time to complete any necessary paperwork.  If you believe you may be more than 30 minutes late for your appointment, please call our main office to see if we can accommodate you that day. Please know that you may be asked to reschedule your appointment.

Bring copies of your past medical labs and your completed patient history form prior to your initial visit. Patients coming in for their follow-up visit should bring a copy of their monthly patient progress reports to discuss with the doctors and nurses.

Before your appointment, you should activate your HIPAA-compliant Elation Passport Portal. Within your profile, you will see a letter from a clinical coordinator containing the link to access the doctor’s virtual waiting room. For initial visits please have access to a pen and paper to take notes. For follow-up appointments, you should have a copy of your monthly progress reports to discuss with the doctors.

Those needing to cancel an appointment should do so at least 48 hours prior to their scheduled visit. Cancellations that are made less than 48 hours prior to the appointment time will be considered no-shows and will forfeit the $150 deposit.

FOR PATIENTS

An initial in-office appointment will last approximately 2-3 hours.

Patients will begin with a physical exam and a consultation with one of our nurses. Your nurse will answer any general questions you may have while she discusses with you your New Patient Completed Forms Packet. You will then meet with one or both of our practicing physicians. During your physician consultation, you will have ample time to discuss your health concerns and review your health history. Our physicians will make observations, look at your health history, and review any lab results you have brought with you in order to determine which lab testing is most appropriate to uncover your possible biochemical imbalance.

The initial appointment at our biomedical clinic takes about two hours and includes a relevant health history, physical examination, biochemical consultations and recommendations from Albert Mensah, MD, and Judith Bowman, MD Specialized laboratory testing is ordered through DHA Laboratory to assist in identifying biochemistry. Following each appointment, patients receive health support through regular communication with the Mensah Medical biomedical clinic health care team.

Outreach Clinics have been set up to assist patients not living in the Chicago metropolitan area. We host outreach clinics to make treatment more convenient for patients who live in or closer to Northern and Southern California, The Mid Atlantic states, Michigan, Arizona, and Florida. Our outreach team travels to most regions every six months to see patients.

Please call the Main Clinic at (630) 256-8308 or email us at info@mensahmedical.com to schedule an appointment for one of our upcoming Outreach Clinics.

At the end of the clinical visit, laboratory testing is ordered. Patient lab results are used to determine individual nutritional deficiencies and overloads. Using these lab results, our physicians formulate a treatment plan with the proper dosing of specific nutrients required to repair and restore brain health. We review your current medications, if you are on them, and we also evaluate possible interactions with the supplements.

ABOUT ORTHOMOLECULAR MEDICINE

Advanced Nutrient Therapy is a fancy term for custom made nutrients. Rather than purchase vitamins and minerals at a health food store in various amounts and combinations, our patients are given a custom blend based on specific lab testing. We use various labs to determine our patient’s unique biochemical individuality and imbalances that may be affecting their behavior, mood, development, and mental well-being. In short, our CustomCoRx (™) is a form of Advanced Nutrient Therapy. It is an individualized vitamin, mineral, and amino acid prescription that we use to treat biochemical imbalances that cause various mental disorders.

The nutritional therapies that Mensah Medical provides go beyond taking over-the-counter multi-vitamins, trial-and-error single supplements or changing one’s diet. While a healthy diet is important, it cannot compensate the adequate amount of nutrients that the brain needs to function. For example, for some, it may be physically impossible to consume bushels of oranges to correct a Vitamin C deficiency. Fortunately, with an understanding of Advanced Nutrient Therapy, an individual’s specific biochemistry and imbalances can be properly identified and treated successfully. Keep in mind that taking the dosages daily is paramount to achieve optimal well-being.

At Mensah Medical, we practice what is called Orthomolecular medicine. It may sound overly clinical or scientific (which is both of those things), however, the approach is simple. We address the root cause of our patient’s conditions rather than simply treating their symptoms. By correcting any nutritional deficiencies or imbalances, we believe that we can restore balance to the body, potentially resolving health issues without relying on harsh pharmaceuticals or invasive procedures. This approach has proven to be effective in cases such as depression, autism, anxiety disorders, and many others where traditional therapies have not provided relief.

The history of orthomolecular medicine can be traced back to the mid-20th century. It was developed by two-time Nobel Prize winner Dr. Linus Pauling, who proposed that vitamins and other nutrients could be used to prevent and treat disease. This idea was revolutionary at the time, as it ran counter to the medical establishment’s view that diseases were caused only by microbes or genetic abnormalities.
