Odor-Sensitive Patients: Patients with pyrrole disorder and undermethylation, especially those with high pyrroles, tend to have a heightened sense of smell. This makes ingesting their programs challenging. In the past, we’ve suggested wiping down the capsules, washing out the container, and airing it out to help dissipate the odor. A new option that has been very successful for our patients with pyrrole disorder, undermethylation, and high sensitivities to scents is the use of scented desiccants in their compounded prescriptions. Vanilla is a favorite.
What are Desiccant Packs?
Desiccants are absorbent packets found inside supplement bottles. They look like flat paper packets in your vitamin bottle, and they will have a warning on them telling you not to eat them. Desiccant packs are added to our bottles through Village Green Apothecary to absorb any moisture that can harm your customized Advanced Nutrient Therapyvitamin, mineral, and amino acid compounds. Moisture will destroy the chemical integrity of your supplements, making them inactive. This is why you need to keep your desiccant packs inside the bottles while they are in use.
Proper Storage for Your Supplements
We suggest our patients store their vitamins in a cool dry place as well. The desiccant will only absorb so much moisture. If the desiccant is exposed to excessive moisture it will no longer be effective. This is why patients need to keep their supplements out of moist environments like the bathroom, or above a stove where water is boiled. This is also why it is not a good idea to keep your Advanced Nutrient Therapy in your refrigerator. The moisture from the refrigerator will condense in the bottle if it is still cold when you open it.
Odor Sensitive Patients: Ordering Scented Desiccants
Odor-sensitive patients who would like a scented desiccant can order them when they speak with a representative at our compounding pharmacy. There is a fee for the scented desiccants. Please request it when you order your AM and PM prescriptions through Village Green Apothecary: (301) 530-0800.
